A marina with superyacht berths is to be included in a massive new resort project being promoted on Koh Rong — an island off the coast of Cambodia.

The Royal Group — a large Cambodian business consortium — is behind the long-term development.

"We are currently seeking investors for various resorts on the island and for one to plan, develop and operate the marina," Mark Hamma, CFO of the Royal Group told SB.

"The project is at an early stage but it will be developed over 25 years and involve an investment of more than $20bn.

"The marina will be built in the first phase of development and it will be designed to accommodate superyachts."

The Koh Rong project also will eventually include a port, hotels, road infrastructure and an airport.

The first phase of construction is set to be completed by 2015.
