The leisure marine industry in Colombia comprises dozen of boatbuilders, the majority headquartered on the Caribbean coast.
Production is focused on fibreglass boats up to 45ft, and models range from RIBs and open, outboard powered motorboats to day cruisers. In addition, a large percentage of the domestic production caters for the professional and commercial sectors.
Current legal framework allows manufacturers to import, tax-free, equipment and accessories to use in their products. Most companies also operate as distributors.
Leading players in the boatbuilding sector are Todomar, Nautica Integral and Motomarlin Boats, all based in Cartagena. Also leading the industry are Medellin-based boatbuilder Eduardoño and RIB manufacturer AB Inflatables, headquartered in Barranquilla.
