Med boat race launched
By IBI Magazine
A new boat race has been launched involving 30 teams in open and semi-rigid boats, divided into five categories according to size and engine, embarking upon 11 days of racing with navigation (off-shore), and special stages (closed courses, ovals and flash races) between the tip of Italy and Tunisia. AQUARAID 2003 will bring together amateurs and a number of celebrities from the world of sport and other horizons including skier Alberto Tomba, and Didier de Radigučs, Motorcycle World Vice-champion. The founder and organiser of the Jetraid (jetski rally raid), Patrick Nassogne is behind the event. "It was time to move up a notch," admits Nassogne with a certain amount of humility. "The experience we have acquired over six years of the Jetraid has enabled us to assemble all the elements to take on this new challenge and to control all the aspects of it. But if I have one piece of advice to offer to all the participants, it is to go for reliability. It is a challenge for amateurs, a supreme test for professionals and a voyage of discovery for all of us." Aquaraid is being organised by Sparkling Blue, a company that is 100 per cent Brussels-based and represented by Patrick Nassogne. It will take place from May 4-17 2003 over 1,900 nautical miles across the Mediterranean. It is not necessary to have a boat specially designed for racing to take part.
