US Secretary of Interior to speak at ABC
By IBI Magazine/Michael Verdon
The NMMA announced today that Gale Norton, US Secretary of the Interior, will deliver the keynote address at the American Boating Conress in May. Norton, the first woman to be named to the cabinet post, has previously served as an Associate Solicitor of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and later as Senior Attorney for the Mountain States Legal Foundation. She has drawn fierce criticism from the environmental community in the US over land-use policies. "Secretary Norton will not only bring her vast knowledge of conservation to ABC, but also her love of America's federal lands, including lakes and rivers," said Matthew Long, NMMA Industry Government Liaison, in a statement. "She will discuss the importance of maintaining the nation's waterways for public use and ensuring that the public can indeed enjoy these natural wonders." Other confirmed speakers include US Senator Elizabeth Dole and Congressman Ric Keller. The ABC conference takes place May 1-3 in Washington, DC.
