Mercury plant marks 2 million hours without lost-time incident

By IBI Magazine

Mercury Marine announced today that one of its facilities had surpassed two million hours without a lost-time incident.

The tally of 2 million hours includes time worked by all Mercury employees in Plant 15. The facility is staffed by about 1,175 people. Plant 15 reached the 1 million mark on May 15, 2005.

According to a company statement, Patrick C. Mackey, Mercury President, made a commitment to safety one of the primary initiatives when he took the position in 2000. Every employee has since been tasked with achieving zero lost-time incidents.

According to the statement, a company made up of 100 employees would have to maintain an incident-free record for a full decade to surpass two million hours.
