ICOMIA holds boat stats meeting
By IBI Magazine
A meeting was held at the Southampton Boat Show this week to discuss the reporting parameters and guidelines relating to ICOMIA's new boat sales statistics programme. The new online reporting system, which is expected to begin in April 2007, allows boatbuilders from around the world to report their sales figures on a quarterly basis. Data will be managed by an independent third party contractor to ensure that individual boat manufacturers' figures remain confidential and cannot be identified within the aggregated results.
"ICOMIA has been determined to improve our industry stats for some time and this is one of a number of initiatives in this area," said ICOMIA president Graeme Avers, who opened the meeting. "But ICOMIA is just the facilitator in this programme — it recognises that this new system must be driven completely by the participating companies' requirements. Its agenda, simply put, is "statistics for industry by industry". ICOMIA is investing considerable funds to make it a success, so we are fully committed to it."
Avers also noted that system development will be completed by early November, followed by system trials in December and full testing in the first quarter of 2007. Recruitment of participating boatbuilders is continuing apace with the list closing for 12 months in mid-December.
