Viking Yachts received the 2006 New Jersey Family Business Award by Fairleigh Dickinson University and the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies at a ceremony last week in Livingston, New Jersey. According to a company statement, Viking was chosen from among eight semi-finalists with business sales over US$10 million. The New Jersey Family Business of the Year Awards programme, established in 1993, recognises the significant contributions to the economy and community made by family businesses based in that state. The panel seeks out innovative strategies and business practices that have had a positive impact on the state economy. Viking Yacht Company was founded by Bill and Bob Healey in 1964, and has always operated as a family-managed business. It currently has 1,400 employees working from its New Gretna facility.
