Western Australia to create "superyacht manufacturing cluster"
By IBI Magazine
The state government of Western Australia (WA) said in a statement that it intends to create a "superyacht manufacturing cluster" south of Fremantle. Industry and Enterprise Minister Francis Logan said the cluster would be a part of a master plan being developed for the entire Australian Marine Complex (AMC) precinct at Henderson. "Western Australia is already home to the most innovative and experienced superyacht industry in the southern hemisphere," said Logan. "The state boasts several internationally acclaimed superyacht builders, and the AMC is the perfect place to incorporate a superyacht cluster to accommodate these exclusive vessels." The national board of SuperYacht Base will meet in Perth next week to discuss the plans. Logan said that SuperYacht Base Australia now has 33 members from WA, a reflection of the level of interest and potential in the local superyacht sector. "We are already working closely with Tourism Western Australia to make WA a superyacht cruising destination of choice," said Logan. Logan added that the development of the yacht sector would build on WA's existing strengths as a leading marine industry state. It would also form part of the Carpenter Government's aim to create sustainable economic opportunities that extend beyond the current resources boom.
