Pendennis Shipyard upgrades facilities

By IBI Magazine

Pendennis Shipyard in the UK has announced that two new concrete piers are currently being erected either side of the slipway at its 6.5-acre waterside facility in Falmouth to accommodate a 400-tonne travel hoist.

The hoist is currently under construction in Italy, and is expected to be in situe by the start of the next winter refit season in September.

Several older buildings will also be pulled down to make way for a 4,000sq m concreted area. This winter, the company successfully completed refits on several yachts under bubble tent on hard standing.

According to a company press release, this latest upgrade is part of a sustained programme of development at Pendennis. Since 2004, its facilities have grown to include two 75m (246ft) dry docks, a new three-storey building containing workshops and storage and refurbished offices for up to five crews at any one time in a converted Victorian grain store on site.
