Volvo Penta IPS debuts in sportsfishing

By IBI Magazine

Volvo Penta IPS is making its first entry into the sportsfishing sector onboard Spencer Yachts' new 43ft (13m) Spencer 43 Express.

Built in North Carolina by sportsfishing legend and custom builder Paul Spencer, the 43 Express is Spencer Yachts' first boat under 50ft (15m).

"We are extremely satisfied with what we accomplished with Volvo Penta IPS. The engines are now under the cockpit deck, which creates a lot of extra space. It's allowed creation of a 43 foot boat with the living space of a 52 foot boat with two staterooms," said Paul Spencer.

"The master stateroom is forward and where there used to be the engine room is now a second stateroom with two large bunks. Yet we get the proper weight distribution and do not sacrifice any of the performance and ride that our boats are known for."

Fuel consumption is also said to be low, despite a cruising speed of just over 30kt.
The boat's top speed is slightly less than 35kt.
