Lewmar makes key appointment

By IBI Magazine

UK marine equipment manufacturer Lewmar has announced the appointment of Gregory Smith as chief operating officer of its US subsidiary, Lewmar USA, and president of its marine rigging division, Navtec Corporation. Reporting to Lewmar CEO Peter O'Connell, Smith will be responsible for managing the two companies' new US investment in manufacturing and product development. He will be based in Guilford, Connecticut, the main office for both Lewmar USA and Navtec.

Prior to joining Lewmar, Smith was director of operations for General Electric Aviation's Times Microwaves Systems in Waterbury, Connecticut. Prior to that, he had his own manufacturing business and was general manager of the Windsor, Connecticut division of Barnes Group Inc, an aerospace component manufacturer.

In a separate announcement, Lewmar has also named Matt Von Bibra as its new Australasian OEM sales manager. Based at Lewmar's soon-to-be opened office in Coomera on Australia's Gold Coast, Von Bibra will be responsible for business development for the OEM market throughout Australasia. He will work with Lewmar's distributor, Harrold Marine Wholesale, locally in Queensland.

Lewmar designs, manufactures and distributes a wide range of boating equipment including anchors, winch, windlass, hatch, hardware, rigging, steering, and thrusters. Manufacturing takes place in Britain and the US, while sales and assembly offices are located in Australia, France, The Netherlands, the UK and the US.

The company's Navtec division designs, manufactures, and distributes performance rigging and hydraulic systems for sailboats, including America's Cup yachts and performance cruising yachts.
