Boat Asia back in Singaporean hands

By IBI Magazine/YP Loke

BoatAsia organiser Suntec Singapore has exited the event management business by selling its entire show portfolio to Singaporean businessman Herman Ho.

Ho was founder of TechMex Event Production, a company that specialises in staging mega events in the IT industry. He divested TechMex to take on the full-time challenge of managing his new entity, TMX Show Productions, which he formed to take over the newly acquired shows from Suntec. The new company will retain all existing staff.

"With the solid foundation that Suntec Integrated Media has established for its shows, TMX Show Productions is now well placed to grow these reputable shows to a higher level," says Ho, who will be the company's managing director. Ho's wealth of experience in the show sector and his personal interest in boating combine well for him to pursue this objective.

Suntec took over Boat Asia in 2004 post economic crisis. In addition to growing the show successively each year, it has enlarged its regional footprint with the formation of the Asian Show Collection comprising Boat Thai, Boat Tech China, and Boat Tech Asia in addition to Boat Asia.

Started in 1991 by Singapore businessman Kenneth Pereira, Boat Asia was owned at various stages of its life by IIR Exhibitions, Amsterdam RAI and Messe Dusseldorf, before Hong Kong-owned Suntec took up the helm. The change in ownership back to Singaporean hands brings the show full circle from the early days when boating in the region was still in its infancy.
