Charter boats to run on vegetable oil
By IBI Magazine
A flotilla of 40 holiday charter boats on the Norfolk Broads in the UK are being fitted with engines that run on vegetable oil. According to a story on BBC, the conversion of the charter boats in the popular cruising destination is an experiment to test the value of "green power". A team from Newcastle University will spend next summer measuring emissions from the launches. The vegetable biodiesel is designed to be free of greenhouse gas wastes. "The Broads will be the first place in the UK to use substantial quantities of this type of fuel in boats," a Broads authority spokesman told the news service. "More and more of our visitors want to enjoy the natural environment without causing damage."
