New York boat show gets new dates
By IBI Magazine
The New York National Boat Show will move to December 13-21, 2008, nearly two weeks earlier than it was originally scheduled. The announcement was made in a statement by NMMA, the show's owner and organiser. The show had straddled the Christmas and New Year's holidays for the last five years, prompting complaints by exhibitors and lower attendance numbers for show-goers. A statement noted that the earlier dates this year should create new marketing opportunities for the long-standing show and enhanced media attention by "piggybacking" off continuous holiday ads. "This change represents a significant development in ongoing efforts with the City and State of New York to relocate the show to a more favorable timeframe," said Ben Wold, executive vice president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), in the statement. "At exhibitors' requests, we've worked hard to find a date pattern that better accommodates the needs of show participants and attendees alike." The show will retain its nine-day format at Manhattan's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
