FarSounder opens new test facility
By IBI Magazine
FarSounder, a US manufacturer of 3D forward-looking sonar technology, has opened a new 116sq m (1,250sq ft) test facility in Warwick, Rhode Island.
"We are extremely excited at what this will mean for our operation, not just in terms of streamlining our manufacturing process, but the opportunities it will offer for our various R&D projects," says Matthew Zimmerman, VP of engineering. "In choosing this facility we are looking to the continued growth of FarSounder and anticipate the added advantage in the future of moving our assembly line there as well." Used on commercial and private ships for obstacle avoidance and shallow water navigation, FarSounder FS-3 sonars are capable of generating a complete 3D image of the sea floor and in-water objects at navigationally significant ranges with a single ping. They offer visualisation of a clear 3D sonar image. Zimmerman continues: "In this unique field we recognise the importance of having such a facility and are willing to work with other companies who may need the use of such an environment for their own testing."
