Exhibitors at Singapore show Boat Asia 2008, which ran from April 24-27, were upbeat about business prospects, with Asian boating markets less affected by the sub-prime crisis than their western counterparts.
Italian Ferretti Group yacht builder Riva — which re-entered the Singapore market this year — has teamed up with a Singaporean Ferrari dealer for distribution, in response to Southeast Asia's typically small, geographically fragmented markets.
Australian luxury yacht brand Riviera debuted its distribution franchise R Marine in Singapore at Boat Asia in partnership with James Purves of Peninsula Boating, which in addition to Riviera will represent the Grand Banks, Princess and Four Winns brands.
This year Boat Asia took place for the first time under new management and at a new venue.
TMX Show Productions, headed by Singaporean entrepreneur Herman Ho, bought out Suntec Singapore's show portfolio — including Boat Asia — late last year. TMX moved the show to Marina @ Keppel Bay, Singapore's newest marina, which features an upmarket waterfront residential development.
