Lewmar relocates steering division

By IBI Magazine

Marine equipment supplier Lewmar, has relocated its Steering division within the UK from Luton to its manufacturing headquarters in Havant.

Lewmar's Steering business has operated as a satellite manufacturing facility since its acquisition from Whitlock in 2001. In a move to improve costs, quality and service, the Luton factory was closed this month and relocated to Havant. The full steering product range and machine shop is now established in the company's south-coast head quarters. Key members of staff have also moved to Havant to ensure continuity.

Peter O'Connell, Lewmar's CEO said: "The final relocation step will be complete on Tuesday May 6, when the steering machine shop comes online in Havant. Moving a factory is never easy and this was no exception. Our team worked hard to minimize disruption to the supply chain. There were some inevitable problems but bringing steering to Lewmar's headquarters will have enormous longer term benefits for our customers and our business."

Founded in 1928, Whitlock was acquired by Lewmar in 2001 and re-branded Lewmar.
