Strictly Sail Pacific attendance down 15 per cent
By IBI Magazine
Strictly Sail Pacific in Oakland, California, reported about 13,000 visitors attended this year's show, down about 15 per cent compared to last year. The show had over 200 exhibitors and 70 boats, ranging in size from trailerable dinghies to a 54-ft. bluewater cruiser. Despite construction at the Jack London Square facility that forced the on-land portion of the show into two large tents, Sail America said in a statement that exhibitors were happy. "This year's show exceeded our expectations," said Dave Moore, owner of Cruising Yachts, Inc. of Alameda, California, in the statement. Cruising Yachts is a dealer for Hunter, Jeanneau, and Caliber. Moore said that six boats were sold at the show. "This was one of our best shows," said Alex Harrison of Hanse Yachts US, in the statement. "The customers were there—the ones who are serious about buying boats." Harrison said that five potential sales could result from the show. "Plans are already in place to work closely with Jack London Square and the Port of Oakland to create additional exhibit space for next year's show," said Kevin Murphy, Sail America's national show manager, in the statement.
