Sail Racing prepares for global expansion

By IBI Magazine/Lars-Åke Redéen

Swedish clothing brand Sail Racing, established in 1977, is ready for an international expansion. The brand is today a part of the Sportmanship Group, which also serves as a Swedish importer of Henri Lloyd, Garmin, Humminbird, Raymarine, Zodiac inflatables and several other well-known marine brands.

Sail Racing is focusing on sporty street fashion as well as functional boat clothes. The brand was founded in 1977, and had a second "restart" in 1989. Today it's one of the most well-known and appreciated brands within sea fashion in Sweden.

In early 2007, the company's board took the decision to built further more and develop the existing markets in Sweden, Norway and Japan and also focus on developing new markets. To this spring/summer four new markets are ready: Italy, Belgium, Holland and Denmark.

Sportsmanship AB was founded by Christer "Creder" Johansson and Mats Månsson in 1985. Today the company is owned by Christer Johansson, Martin Rydell and the 6th Swedish National Pension Fund. It has around 130 employees (including sister companies) with a turnover in excess of SEK700 million.
