MTU Friedrichshafen opens UK office

By IBI Magazine

Germany's MTU Friedrichshafen has opened a new office and workshop in Britain.

MTU UK, which is located around 30 miles south of London in East Grinstead, has served as the company's UK distributor since the start of the year and is responsible for sales and aftersales of MTU's complete line of diesel engines.

The newly furnished workshop is located next to the office complex, serving as a central service centre for the UK market while the field service is currently extended.

According to a company statement, MTU's rail, marine and PowerGen application segments, as well as the group's aftersales business, have contributed to strong growth in the UK market.

MTU has doubled the number of UK staff to more than 30 in 2008. While the growing Yacht and GenSet business is largely export-focused, the rail sector has provided significant domestic sales with accompanying aftersales business, the company claims.

The UK is also said to be one of MTU Friedrichshafen's largest markets worldwide for energy supply systems to the oil and gas industry.
