The Florida, US-based International Superyacht Society, a not-for-profit organisation representing the large yacht industry worldwide, has announced the streamlining of its design awards and the introduction of two new non-yacht awards.
From now on, the ISS will recognise achievement in the following categories: three power awards for 24m-40m (79ft-131ft), 40m -65m (131ft -213ft), and 65m (213ft ); two sail awards for 24m-40m (79ft-131ft) and 40m (131ft ); and an interior design fitout award for either power or sail.
The ISS will also be adding two new non-yacht awards to the 2008 honours. The excellence in innovation award will go to an individual or business, while the ISS person or business of the year award will recognise skill, achievement and a thorough knowledge of the industry.
Anyone in the industry can nominate a yacht for a prize. ISS members then vote for a five finalist yachts in each category. The winning yachts are then selected by a panel of judges from the industry and are announced at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
