DMCA and Dubai Police join forces

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) is working with the Dubai Police to develop new strategies and regulations for security and maritime safety, training and registration of maritime boats, as well as marine driving licences — all seen as increasingly critical functions as Dubai transitions itself into an international maritime hub.
The two parties have also discussed the possibility of Dubai Police participating in discussions relating to the preparation of maritime laws and registrations in Dubai, which are under the direct responsibility of DMCA. The new measures and regulations will be unveiled in September 2008 and are in line with DMCA's objective of expediting and streamlining the registration and licensing processes in the UAE maritime sector.
"Dubai Maritime City Authority is taking concrete steps to enhance the delivery of maritime services and consolidate Dubai's reputation as a centre for maritime excellence," says Amer Ali, CEO of DMCA. "The establishment of the Marine Registration and Licensing Department is one of the key initiatives that will help us attain our objectives. This new department will serve as a convenient and efficient platform to facilitate licensing and registration procedures as well as other maritime-related activities."
The Emirates International Maritime Academy was established for the purpose of training drivers of boats and yachts. In addition, discussions were made in regards to the issuing of maritime driving licences and an appropriate action plan for this activity. DMCA will cooperate with Dubai Police in training concerned personnel and informing them of the licensing procedures and other related issues.
Dubai Maritime City is a purpose-built maritime centre built on a manmade peninsula in the UAE. When completed, the 227-hectare region will comprise of industrial, commercial, residential and leisure facilities between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks.
