True Heading becomes VOR supplier
By IBI Magazine/Lars-Åke Redéen
Sweden's True Heading has been named official supplier of AIS products for boats in the Volvo Ocean Race (VOR). True Heading has signed an agreement with VOR to equip all boats that are currently sailing in the race with AIS Class B units.
"This is an important step in our testing and a chance for us to prove we have the best equipment on the market," says Anders Bergström, managing director of True Heading. "The AIS equipment is an important part of the Volvo Ocean Race security equipment. It's also in demand for visitors to harbours like Singapore. All eight boats are equipped in the same way with the AIS-CTRX and the Class B VHF Splitter, both from True Heading. This solution makes it possible to share the same antenna between AIS and VHF and get a longer range."
The units provide a new dimension in racing as they get a direct check-up on the other boats' positions within VHF range.
True Heading AB is a leading consulting company that provides the highest excellence and performance in the field of telematics and transponder technology.
The AIS-CTRX is the latest product for pleasure craft and smaller commercial vessels. The AIS Class-B transponder provides both reception and transmission of AIS data at a fraction of the cost of a conventional Class-A transponder.
