Mercury to move MotorGuide operations to Attwood Marine

By IBI Magazine

Mercury Marine announced that it intends to shut down its MotorGuide facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and move operations to its Attwood Marine Products division in Lowell, Michigan. MotorGuide employs 61 people.

The company said that the continued economic downturn prompted the move. "It will allow Mercury Marine to take full advantage of the 'development and operations synergy' of the much larger plant in Lowell," said the statement. MotorGuide will retain a small R&D presence in Tulsa. The targeted date for the completion of the move is October 30, 2009.

Mercury said the closure is not related to recent media reports about the future of its sterndrive operations in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
