New Zealand marine industry launches Discover Boating campaign
By IBI Magazine
New Zealand is the latest country to launch a Discover Boating campaign, following similar programmes in the US and Australia. The programme is sponsored by the Marine Industry Association of New Zealand, along with a dozen other sponsors like Maritime NZ, Water Safety NZ, Yamaha and Fi-Glass Boats. Bob Tait, chairman of Discover Boating, hopes the campaign will prompt a new wave of New Zealanders to join the boating scene. "With one in eight Kiwis owning a boat, New Zealand has a high level of boat ownership," he told Stuff.nz. "However the marine industry realises that if it is to continue to grow, it needs to encourage more people to take the plunge." Tait said the campaign, which includes a web component at www.discoverboating.co.nz, is aimed at attracting baby boomers and immigrants to New Zealand. The campaign also has links to social media pages on Twitter and FaceBook. A talking figure on the home page, known as the "Boating Babe", is the Discover Boating campaign's public face. The campaign is also running a competition with The Sunday Star-Times to increase awareness. A complete boating package valued at over NZ$32,000 is the grand prize.
