Century Boats to discontinue production
By IBI Magazine
Yamaha Motor Corp. USA announced today that production of its Century Boats brand will be discontinued. The decision is effective immediately. The company's 63 employees were told today. "The decision to discontinue production was difficult to make but market conditions have made it difficult to sustain an acceptable level of performance at the Panama City facility," said Phil Dyskow, president of Yamaha Marine Group and Century Boat Company, in a statement. Dyskow said Century's sales have declined sharply over the last 12 months. Century, which Yamaha purchased in 1995, has 45 dealers in 18 states. Yamaha said that production peaked in 2007 with over 1,000 boats.
