Caterpillar ships 5000th marine engine in just over two years
By IBI Magazine
Caterpillar has shipped its 5000th marine engine since opening the Caterpillar Marine Center of Excellence (MCOE) in August 2007. The facility in Greenville, South Carolina, was built for the design, development, and testing of Cat C7 through C32 marine engines. Engine blocks from three Caterpillar manufacturing facilities in Illinois, Georgia, and South Carolina are also shipped to the MCOE for assembly. The facility, certified ISO9001 AND MQ12005, uses a specialized paint process for the marine environment. Eight marine classification societies also audit the facility to provide Caterpillar with formal approval of its manufacturing and quality management systems. The milestone Cat diesel will be shipped to the UK to its dealer, Finning, for installation in a Princess P62 yacht.
