Zodiac and ABYC sign certification agreement

By IBI Magazine

Zodiac of North America's (ZNA) Military and Professional Boats Division has signed a cooperative agreement with the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC).

The agreement requires ZNA's dealers to have at least one ABYC-certified technician on staff at all times. ABYC said, in return, it will schedule education and certification classes in areas that are geographically convenient to the dealers. ABYC said it would also issue discount vouchers for the top dealers.

Skip Burdon, ABYC president, said in a statement that it is working with boat and engine manufacturers to provide the only "non-proprietary nationally accredited technical training" for the recreational boat industry. "ABYC training is intended to compliment proprietary factory and engine training training Zodiac NA provides its technicians," said Burden.

"Zodiac has a real need for a high level of competence to work on our Military & Professional Boats, and ABYC was the right fit to help qualify these individuals," said TJ Tracy, vice president of sales and marketing for ZNA, in the statement.
