Gothenburg sees increase in visitors

The 2010 Gothenburg Boat Show closed on Sunday with a 2.5 per cent increase in visitor numbers. Around 79,200 people attended this year's show, which ran from February 6-14, with many exhibitors reporting strong leads.
"We're really happy to see that more people visited the show," says Bengt Wallin, project manager of this year's event. "Spring is coming and the Swedish people have renewed faith in the future. Once again they want to invest in their leisure time."
According to Jessica Linder, sales and marketing manager at Swedish boatbuilder Linder Aluminiumbåtar AB, interest was much greater than originally anticipated.
"We sold 50 boats during the show in price segments from SEK12,000 up to SEK160,000," she says. "We're positively overwhelmed. We've also noticed that interest in environmental issues is becoming more and more important. Boats need to be endurable and fuel costs lower."
"We've sold three Targa 27s and one Targa 44 and got more inquiries than previous year," says Calle Olsson, a partner at Nordic Marine. "Since we're selling custom-made boats, the real heavy work continues after the show is closed."
