AB Volvo Penta and Yamaha Motor Co. have announced a technological partnership to develop boat control systems. The two engine builders said the partnership involves Volvo Penta's existing technologies but the two firms would evaluate future opportunities for cooperating in marketing. Volvo Penta's fully owned subsidiary, CPAC Systems, has developed a CAN-based network, which links engine, transmission, instrumentation and accessories in a single system. That network currently forms the electronic base of Volvo Penta's product range for powerboats. Volvo will adapt some of its electronic products for Yamaha, and according to a statement, those products will be introduced in the next few years. The partnership start in the beginning of 2011. "With electronics and state-of-the-art technology, boat owners today can obtain access to fantastic systems and accessories, such as joystick maneuvering", said Göran Gummeson, Volvo Penta president, in a statement. "The technology agreement between Yamaha Motor and Volvo Penta will create the potential for both companies to further strengthen their customer offering in the field of electronics."
