Sunreef Yachts, Scout Boats, Galeon Yachts and Mastervolt have all put themselves in contention to win an award at the inaugural Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement, by being shortlisted for the Innovative On-Board Design Solution Award, sponsored by Fusion.

The list marks the fifth and final shortlist for the Awards, headline sponsored by Raymarine and scheduled to take place during METSTRADE at a gala dinner on November 18. There is no shortlist for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Of the considerable number of entries in the On-Board Design Solution category the judges felt that the fully open, double height saloon in Sunreef’s First 70 catamaran, that features a directly accessed master cabin with an ensuite behind instant frosting glass, was worthy of note. As was Scout Boats’ Beach Platform that enables boaters with outboard powered vessels, to safely access the boat from a large fold down side door. The Beach Platform lowers and raises via hydraulics and gas assisted shocks on the aft port side of the Scout 420LXF.

Mastervolt’s CZone digital control and monitoring network that simplifies installation of electrical systems through the replacement of complicated, cumbersome wiring to switch and fuse panels, with state-of-the-art, robust interfaces and light NMEA 2000 network cable, also impressed the judges.

Finally Galeon Yacht’s 500 Fly that features drop down port and starboard sides, extending the width of the cockpit to 5.8m to create a ‘beach club’ mode. The judges believed this to be a truly innovative first for a boat of this size, providing the owner with exterior space characteristics of much larger yachts.

The winner of the Innovative On-Board Design Solution Award will be announced with other category winners at the gala dinner at the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam on the night of November 18.
