Chinese company Shenyang Mechanical and Electrical is building the X43, a 14m flybridge motoryacht. The project is a milestone for the local boatbuilding industry as it comes at a time when most yacht companies in Pingsha–Zhuhai, nearby Hong Kong, are closed due to currency depreciation and to labour costs increasing in China over the past years.
Romanian yacht designer Andrei Rochian has created X43, a 14m flybridge motoryacht currently in build in the city of Shenyang, the capital and largest urban area of Liaoning Province, the imperial capital of the Qing and the historical Manchuria region in northeast China. Construction of the vessel nears completion and her launch is planned for July this year.
Rochian claims this is the first ever fibreglass composite series production motoryacht built in Manchuria. The company building the vessel is Shenyang Mechanical and Electrical and this project is the first model in its portfolio.
“This is the first ever fibreglass composite motoryacht built in north-east China Manchuria as opposed to the south-west and especially the Guangdong [province] where there is the base of Chinese composite boatbuilding industry,” Andrei Rochian told IBI.
The Manchuria-based company has been working on the project over the last four and a half years. In this time, the firm created the set of moulds and tooling for the series production of the motoryacht as well as the first unit.

The north-east provinces of China (Manchuria the old home country of the Qing Dynasty) were heavily industrialised by Japan during the WW2. From 1990 there has been massive development of heavy industries but practically nil progress in the composite yachts industry in Manchuria.

The X43 motoryacht is built of solid glass for hull bottom, vacuum infused fibreglass lamination with Herex PVC foam core and of different E-glass reinforcements in topside, deck and flybridge.
The yacht also features a layer of vinylester barrier hull laminate for osmosis protection and PVC foam cored bulkheads. Hull to deck connection is mechanically fastened and bonded .
The hull finish is Ashland gelcoat surface finish and the bottom paint includes two prime coats of International Micron CSC and three top coats of Gelshield.
She is powered by two Volvo Penta D6 HS80V 370hp diesel engines and has been designed to target the Chinese market but the company believes the model would also appeal to the Asia South-east and Russian markets.
Andrei Rochian is now based in Bournemouth, Dorset (UK). He has at the latest two years been, serving in the Engineering Department Royal National Lifeboat Institute, Dorset, UK.
He has over 17 years’ experience designing yachts and conversion projects. His portfolio comprises 50 concept designs from small boats to superyachts.
Andrei Rochian-designed yachts have been built in the UK, Holland, Sweden,UAE, Dubai, China and Hong Kong. Four of Rochian’s latest designs are currently in different stages of the build process in Germany, China and South Korea.
