A highly experienced panel of jury members from France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, the UK and Canada are meeting this week to shortlist 100 entries that have made it to final consideration in 10 categories.

The 2022 Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement – co-organised by IBI and METSTRADE and held in association with Raymarine – recognises the many excellent developments in this critical sector as well as celebrating personal achievement and the important involvement of the supply chain.

Moving with rapidly changing times, this year’s edition has focused additional attention on sustainability through its Eco-focused Boat of the Year award (sponsored by Marine Resources), and Environmental Improvement in Manufacturing Process award (sponsored by HP Watermakers). The quality and volume of nominations for these categories shows just how rapidly the industry is moving to respond to a global sustainability agenda.

Another new highlight is the Designer of the Year award. This has attracted fierce competition reflecting the importance of in-house and external naval architects, stylists, and design engineers.

Annette Roux receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Beneteau Group’s Annette Roux in 2018, one of several exceptional industry leaders to accept the Boat Builder’s Lifetime Achievement Award during the annual BBA event

At a time when the sector is acutely aware of the need to nurture talent, the Judges have been pleased to see the strongest yet entry for the Rising Star award for boat builder professionals aged 35 and under, sponsored by Lumishore.

This is also balanced by the highest yet number of nominations for Lifetime Achievement, sponsored by Sleipner. The depth of entries this year emphasises the strong legacy of pioneering development that the industry has built up and maintained over several successful decades.

Shortlist announcements

Work on shortlisting commences this week and shortlist announcements will be made, by category, from Monday 10th October onwards.

The final winners will be announced in Amsterdam on 15th November 2022 at a symbolic return to the spectacular National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam, the perfect finale to the opening day of METSTRADE 2022.

The Boat Builder Awards provides the ideal opportunity to network, celebrate with the industry’s greats, learn about the latest developments and enjoy a fully organised night out that starts with canal boat pre-dinner drinks with a waterside pick-up right outside METSTRADE itself, sponsored by Highfield Boats, and a post-event party sponsored by McKenna Townsend, following a three course dinner, entertainment and the awards presentation.

Every effort is being made to ensure this eighth edition of the awards is the best yet.
