Project 8X, due for launch in autumn 2020, will be fundamentally different from Sunseeker’s current range
Sunseeker International has unveiled Project 8X at the Düsseldorf boat show this week, offering a glimpse of the design cues that will inform the next generation of Sunseekers.
Project 8X, which is due for launch in autumn 2020, will be fundamentally different from its current range Sunseeker says, “exemplifying the feel of a true superyacht.” Project 8X’s stand-out features will be striking lines, volume, an open-plan interior and a new ‘Beach Club’ concept – offering it says, four times the area of a traditional bathing platform design.
Launching in autumn 2020, Project 8X showcases the fresh design direction of Sunseeker’s next generation of larger models and underlines the brand’s commitment to bringing even more exciting new products to market.
The Beach Club’s inset transom and bathing platform has been developed into a highly specified entertainment area of its own. With extensive stowage for a plethora of toys including a Williams 460 SportJet and JetSki, it features an integrated remote-controlled tender crane within the aft coaming, SeaBob deck lockers, optional 3.2m x 2.5m hydraulic bathing platform, a ‘self-levelling’ step passarelle, built-in drawer BBQ, dedicated refrigeration and overhead rain shower.
The flybridge provides another dedicated entertainment space with an expansive wet bar with stools, BBQ, helm drawer fridges, companion helm seating and optional hot tub. The carbon fibre hardtop with full-width retractable canopy provides the shade for an exceptionally generous seating and dining area that can be configured or left open-plan.
Stepping up to the cockpit with glazed balustrade and powered mesh privacy blinds, the cockpit seating will be configurable to the owner’s wishes whilst a secondary wet bar complete with sink, fridge, icemaker and preparation surfaces creates a self-sufficient aft entertaining space. The optional side access ladder with dedicated stowage provides easy access to port or starboard when moored alongside.
The foredeck can also incorporate a 140 inch cinema screen, laser projector and surround sound, while the saloon measures a 8.8m in length by 5.6m width providing space for modular lounge seating and chaise longue to port; all made possible by the concealment of multiple service items such as the a/c chiller units. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the living accommodation with natural daylight complimented by sliding doors to port if required. A dedicated dining area for eight can be positioned to port or starboard whilst a contemporary apartment-style galley forward, with partition screens if required, offers direct side deck access for crew.
“Whilst each new model is still quintessentially and unmistakeably a Sunseeker, this exciting new yacht will, without doubt, reinvent the market”
The lower helm, with additional dedicated side deck access, can be specified with a 3.7m skylight to flood the area with light, and provision is also made for a day-head to port, rare on a yacht of this size.
A wooden feature wall leads owners into the full beam master stateroom offering panoramic views via its 2.5m feature windows.
A further forward VIP cabin with dedicated access and two twin aft cabins which can be converted into doubles, provides a yacht that can comfortably sleep eight guests.
For the charter market, an optional fifth cabin is possible in lieu of the standard master stateroom whilst for certain markets, a lower galley with direct crew cabin access is also feasible. The crew cabin, with capacity for four or five, benefits from a kitchenette, crew mess, en suite and provision of two appliances.
Commenting on the launch of Project 8X, Sean Robertson, sales director at Sunseeker International, said: “We are immensely excited about the launch of this project which we believe will dictate this sector for years to come. Her exterior and interior are fundamentally very different from the current range. Sunseeker prides itself on producing the world’s finest luxury performance motor yachts and the design and engineering behind Project 8X epitomises our next generation of larger models. Whilst each new model is still quintessentially and unmistakeably a Sunseeker, this exciting new yacht will, without doubt, reinvent the market when it launches next year.”
