From 2019, the ClubSwan 36 will compete for the European Championships
Finnish yacht-builder Nautor’s Swan has announced that its ClubSwan 36 is to join the one-design fleet competing for the European Championship in this year’s Nations Trophy.
Launched in 2017, the Nations Trophy is a biennial racing event for Nautor’s Swan one-design yachts. Owners from different nations can compete in the Swan 45 World Championship, plus the ClubSwan 50, Swan 42, and now ClubSwan 36 European Championships.
The Nations Trophy is decided by combining the place-positions of the two top-placed boats of each competing country. The winning nation is the one with the lowest place-position total and is awarded a new perpetual trophy created by high-end jeweler and silversmith Buccellati.
Following the success of the inaugural event in 2017, Nautor’s Swan extended the concept by introducing a season-long league in the Mediterranean.
The Nations Trophy Mediterranean League 2019 comprises four events:
- Monaco Swan One Design (April 9-13)
- Scarlino Swan One Design (April 30 to May 4)
- Rolex Giraglia (Inshore races, June 9-15)
- Copa del Rey Mapfre (July 27 to August 3)
In 2019, the league concept will extend to the Baltic as well with the Swan One Design North European League, which will be held during the Nord Stream Race (Kiel, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg) from June 22 to July 5.
The Nations Trophy is the culmination of the Swan One Design Leagues season. It will be hosted at Real Club Nautico de Palma from October 8-12 and Nautor’s Swan expects 40 yachts to participate from around the world – 17 boats in the ClubSwan 50 class, nine boats in the Swan 45 Class, nine in the ClubSwan 42 Class and five boats in the ClubSwan 36 class.
