US deck hardware manufacturer to supply equipment used on American Magic

Harken, the US deck hardware specialist, has been named an official supplier of New York Yacht Club’s American Magic, challenger for the 36th America’s Cup.

Harken will supply deck hardware, winches, gearboxes, blocks and hydraulic components that will be used in American Magic’s AM38 test boat and AC75 racing boats.

The equipment will be designed and built in Harken factories in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and Limido Comasco, Italy.

“What you see in Harken is a company that’s always at the leading edge,” says Terry Huchinson, American Magic skipper and executive director. “In a campaign like ours, you look for every conceivable advantage. When you work with a company like Harken during a Cup cycle where everything is a clean slate, that’s what you expect to get.”

Apart from its more than 40-year history in the America’s Cup, Harken products are found at the front of sailing in all its forms. Harken’s network includes distribution in 48 countries, with group offices in Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US.
