Business development director Todd Sims speaks to IBI on the opening of the show

Ingenity, the electric division of Correct Craft, has wasted no time in taking its new mCrate drop-in propulsion package aimed at OEM boatbuilders to the mass market, debuting the system at the Electric & Hybrid Expo this week in Long Beach, California just days after formally announcing the venture.

Integrity’s Todd Sims: “Now we have the capacity, we’ve learned all of the lessons and we’ve tweaked the system so that it is ready and documented for third-party installations”

Business development director Todd Sims told IBI on the show floor that Ingenity has had interest from third-party boat builders for the past 18 to 24 months, but their own builds – the Nautique tow boat introduced in 2020 and the 2022 launch of the 23E Day Boat, along with a supply agreement with Hackercraft that same year – limited the Orlando, Florida-based company’s capacity.

“Now we have the capacity, we’ve learned all of the lessons and we’ve tweaked the system so that it is ready and documented for third-party installations,” Sims said, adding that while Ingenity purchases components from electric vehicle market suppliers, that’s the easy part.

“The integration is where the secret sauce happens. We have the software capability on-site so we an develop different screens, different fields and tweak the performance of the motor into the system to address whatever need that a particular builder has.”

Sims said that a lot of learning was gleaned in the four-years since launching its first all-electric package.

“We have standardised the software, made some cooling packages depending on the use case and location of the boat and have come up with a scalable architecture from 100kW to 400kW; it can be a 400-volt system or and 800-volt system and we can scale the battery capacity starting at 63kW hours up to 180 plus.”

Sims said that interest has been high since the news broke about the offering, and he’s seen plenty of traffic in the first day at the Expo.

“This is a show where it is just as important to talk with the other vendors as it is to talk to the attendees,” explaining that Ingenity is always looking for potential vendors as well as selling its engineering and integration services to others.

“So far, it’s been a very good venue for us.”
