Growing involvement with yacht market

Following its recent association with the building of the Spirit Yachts 111 model, the Lignia Wood Company in the UK is reporting significant growth from yacht builders and designers for specialist wood decking products as an alternative to real teak that it manufactures.

Nigel Pompeus, Lignia’s head of marketing, told IBI: “ Following the Spirit Yachts 111 project we are now receiving enquiries from yacht builders every day. Currently the yacht market accounts for around 50% of our revenues and it seems likely to grow.”

As part of servicing this international growth Lignia has signed a distribution agreement with Italian timber expert, Bellotti Spa. The company will distribute Lignia and Lignia Yacht products to the Italian and Swiss markets. The agreement was signed in Amsterdam at METSTRADE 2019 last week.

Bellotti was established in 1927 and is a manufacturer of specialist timber with strong connections to the Italian superyacht industry. The agreement signed is a non-exclusive distribution agreement to market and sell Lignia wood into the construction sector along with Lignia Yacht into the marine world. The Lignia Wood Company produces modified timber at its base in Barry.

“Italy is very important to us in both construction and the yacht world and Bellotti has many connections, especially with superyacht brands,” Lignia Wood Company chief executive, Hans Ng. “They’re also very innovative and their technical capabilities are a great match for our ambitions.”
