New Italian builder eyeing expansion off back of positive feedback for first model
Ita Catamarans, the Italian builder founded in 2016, is celebrating its first model, the ITA14.99, picking up the Catamaran of the Year 2020 at the Nautic Show in Paris last week. The award, off the back of nominations for Multihull of the Year (40-50ft) 2018 from Multicoques/Multihull Magazine and for Multihull of the Year at the British Yachting Awards 2019, has given the builder a confidence boost as it prepares for 2020.
ITA Cats has a head office in Northern Italy near Lake Garda, along with a 1200m2 yard located in the Central Adriatic, and employs a core group of 8 people, supported by seasoned tradesmen. Focusing on quality rather than quantity, production so far has been purposely limited to 5 units year – work is due to start on hull 6 in the coming weeks – but production numbers will be expanded to meet growing demand going forward.
The design of ITA 14.99 was carried out by François Pérus and Yacht Design Collective who worked with Team ITA on the brief. Interiors were designed by Emanuele Soli, Emanuele Caprini and YDC. The yard has also partnered with Oceanvolt – all its models are fitted with electrical hybrid propulsion as standard.
ITA is the brainchild of Emanuele Caprini an entrepeneur who had been looking for a cat for himself and not finding what he wanted, concluded that there was a gap in the market to fill for himself and other discerning sailors. Caprini surrounded himself with a team of professionals who had been working in the nautical sector for years (Ferretti, Wally, Franchini to name a few) and sea afficionados, with the intention of creating a product that embodied the best balance between Safety, Quality, Performance, Comfort and Sustainability.
New model plans will be announced at the International Multihull Show in La Grande-Motte, in April 2020.
