West Nautical director Andrey Lomakin tells Russia’s RBC Style business paper that sales in recent years had increased significantly, creating the right conditions to fuel expansion
West Nautical, a leading charter, broker and yacht management firm in Russia and post-Soviet territories, is looking to significantly strengthen its presence in the EU and US markets according to recent statements made by Andrey Lomakin, general director of the company.
Lomakin told Russia’s RBC Style business paper that sales in recent years had increased significantly, creating the right conditions to fuel expansion. West Nautical has been in discussion with a number of leading builders with a view to representing their brands and expanding their Russian portfolios. It recently signed a contract to represent Italian builder Bluegame, a brand of Sanlorenzo, and represents the interests of Fairline Yachts and Sunseeker International brands in the Russian market.
According to Lomakin, the Russian market will remain a priority for West Nautical, especially given says Lomakin, the ongoing, rapid development of local yachting infrastructure, particularly in the Black Sea area that is becoming the centre of yachting in Russia. Lomakin says the Russian market has seen a shift in recent years, from boats being seen primarily as status symbols, to demand growing among individuals keen to get out on the water and to experience the sea. West Nautical believes this shift toward more ’experience led’ appreciation of boating bodes well for the uptake of serial produced boats in Russia and abroad, in the coming years.
One of the priority directions for the company’s further development will involve the expansion of its existing range and the improvement of the quality of provided services. Lomakin highlights the need to invest in IT technologies particularly, to move the industry and its service forward by understanding the customer better.
”Yacht owners are often very closed, it is difficult to understand what they want and what they need,” Lomakin said. ”This is not an easy task, but I want to bring the whole industry and service to a modern technological level, which is similar to those, which is currently observed, for example, in the automotive industry.”
