Polish multihull builder Sunreef Yachts today announced that it is setting up a shipyard in Dubai to build its new 40 Open Sunreef Power. The fast day-cruiser with catamaran hull is having its global debut at the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS), where the news was announced. Few details about the new UAE facility are available at this stage, but the yard plans to start building the 40 Open later this year.
The first 40 Open was built in Poland and is owned by Sunreef founder Francis Lapp for use as a demo craft. The 12.75m (42ft) cruiser has speed as a key feature, with the first model equipped with two IPS 600 engines for a speed of 40kt. A second engine option is based on the 40 Open being equipped with two IPS 800 engines, which would give it a planned speed of 70kt.
Not only is this new Sunreef model seen as a fast day-cruiser but also a superyacht tender. With a beamy multihull structure and folding bulwarks, the 40 Open Sunreef Power has large amounts of lounging space and is naturally balanced at high speeds. The Dubai premiere craft features the model’s planing hull version, but the company is already working on a hydrofoil edition.
With a well-equipped bar, state-of-the-art sound system, a big sun awning, fishing rods and clever storage, the 40 Open Sunreef Power is a fully customisable craft. The model’s hulls offer enough volume for a spacious bathroom and a utility room. The open bow section can also be used as a comfortable cabin with a double bed.
A Sunreef spokeswoman told IBI that the company had exceeded its 2017 budget in sales achieved. The company is also working on its new shipyard in Gdansk, which has been planned for a number of years. The spokeswoman commented: “The new yard will allow us to build more and larger yachts.”
The new facility will include a large build hall that includes a state-of-the-art CNC system and is due to be completed by the end of March this year. No indication of what investment the new yard represents has been given.
In addition to the 40 Open on show at DIBS, Sunreef is also exhibiting its Sunreef Supreme 68 Power named Athena. This modern motor catamaran includes cutting-edge technology and a radical design that includes an immense saloon surrounded with floor-to-ceiling glass and a wide opening onto both the cockpit and passageways.
