City commission approves zoning amendments that clear the way for a vote of final approval for a US$25m mixed-use marina project

The Ft Lauderdale, Florida, city commission last week approved zoning amendments that clear the way for a vote of final approval for a US$25m mixed-use marina project, which is scheduled for 20 November.

Alabama developer Hix Snedeker Companies is contracted to purchase the site of the planned South Fork Marina, an open-air marina with 34 boat slips to accommodate yachts up to 155ft. The developer is also slated to build a 2,400sq ft storage building with 16 bays and a 1,553sq ft clubhouse with office space, according to The Real Deal.

The property is currently owned by Pier 17 Investments 2014 LLC, which purchased the property for US$5.75m after the property fell into foreclosure in 2014.

The current owner planned a US$50m marina development which was approved in 2015, but the project was never launched.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for early next year, with completion expected in the summer of 2020.
