Edinburgh Marina, Scotland’s new waterside destination development, has been granted a marine works licence by Marine Scotland. The licence paves the way for the construction of a new 373-berth marina located less than 2.5 miles from Edinburgh city centre in Granton’s Western Harbour. Once complete, it will provide 24/7 access to the sea at all states of tide.

The new Edinburgh Marina has been specifically designed to surpass the Yacht Harbour Association’s 5 Gold Anchor rating, complete with a purpose-built clubhouse with brasserie restaurant and bar, and a chandlery. There will also be a fully serviced boatyard and dry-stack operation.

The clubhouse has recently been granted detailed planning permission for its relocation adjacent to Edinburgh Marina’s new Hyatt Regency Spa and Conference Hotel. Yacht owners and visitors will be able to benefit from onboard food and drink, concierge services, as well as access to the hotel spa and gym.

“The grant of the marine works licence is one small step for Edinburgh Marina and a giant leap for the city of Edinburgh, as work can now begin on creating a high-class facility for boating enthusiasts,” says Kevin Fawcett of Edinburgh Marina Holdings. ”We are delighted that Marine Scotland has put their faith in our project, which will enable Edinburgh to compete for a large share of the country’s £3.7bn marine tourism industry.”

The centrepiece marina will be served by the clubhouse, which is complete with male and female changing and locker rooms. The facility also includes private function and dining space for evening receptions, parties and meetings.

The new marina will form the centrepiece of the Edinburgh Marina development, which will see the creation of over 1,850 new homes. In addition to the state-of-the-art Edinburgh Marina, the development includes Royal Wharf – the luxury living for retirement scheme, new homes for sale and for rent, the new Hyatt Regency Spa and Conference hotel, and the Chestnut Yard medical hub and neighbourhood shopping.

Phase One of the development will create over 800 permanent employment opportunities for the local community, alongside high percentages of affordable homes.

“It must be said that Edinburgh Marina is more than a place to sail,” Kevin Fawcett adds. “Our vision from the outset was to create a waterside destination that takes advantage of Edinburgh’s rich cultural appeal, whilst opening up a new route to Edinburgh Waterfront’s stunning stretch of coastline.”
