A new US$250m mixed-use development in the centre of Nassau, the Bahamian capital, is to include a 45-berth marina for yachts up to 46m (150ft) as a key part of the project.

The complex, located at The Pointe in Nassau, is already under construction on a six-acre site. The developer is the Margaritaville brand, which is controlled by American musician Jimmy Buffett. This will be its first scheme in Nassau.

In addition to a state-of-art marina, the project will feature 150 luxury oceanfront residences, a 150-room Margaritaville Beach Resort, a water park, entertainment centre, spa, retail outlets and a kid’s club.

Commenting on the new development, John Cohlan, CEO of Margaritaville, said: “The Bahamas – one of the most beautiful places in the world – is an absolutely perfect location for a Margaritaville lifestyle destination.

“We’re excited to combine our casual-luxe brand with the local Bahamian culture, known for its warmth and hospitality, to create a one-of-a-kind paradise to vacation, visit, live or just kick back and relax. Nassau is an ideal destination for our lifestyle brand as we continue to expand our global hospitality footprint.”

Due to open in mid-2019, the Margaritaville resort represents a significant boost to this central part of Nassau, which has been undergoing a renaissance over recent years. At this stage of the development there is little information about the marina in terms of the berth mix, whether it will include visitor berths, who will supply the pontoons and who will operate it.
