The fire at Marina do Forte in Bertioga is currently being investigated
Dozens of boats were destroyed during a fire this past weekend at the Marina do Forte in Bertioga, on the coast of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Rio Times reports the flames spread rapidly between vessels at the marina – most of them dry-berthed on land – with the fuel on board contributing to the conflagration. Firefighters and marina personnel worked to remove some of the boats before the fire could spread further.
Thick, black smoke filled the sky over the coastal community when the fire began at approximately 9:30am local time on Saturday. The fire burned well into the night.
The fire is being investigated, but the newspaper reports that preliminary evidence indicates the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
