New boat sales in the US rose for the seventh year running

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) has released its completed 2018 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract, billing it as the ‘most comprehensive collection of industry data and a trusted source for recreational boating statistics’.

Among the highlights of the report, new boat sales rose in the US for the seventh year running, up a combined 4.4% on 281,000 vessels. The association states new boats sales are up over 4.5% from 2008 levels.

Boaters spent US$41.8bn on boats, related accessories and services in 2018, an increase of 6.8%. NMMA notes recreational boating outpaced overall US retail sales growth of 4.8%.

Used-boat sales in the US was closing in on one million units, with an estimated 976,200 powerboats, sailboats and personal watercraft changing hands.
