PWCs and larger outboards the big winners

Despite conflicting forecasts on where the US economy is headed, wholesale boating shipments remained strong through February, according to the Monthly Shipping Report from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).

Personal watercraft (PWC) shipments were up 21.1% year-to-date compare with the same period ending February of last year. During the same time, outboard shipments were up 5.1%.

Outboards over 200hp were up over 30% year-to-date in February, with engines under 75hp were down approximately 9%.

Meanwhile, NMMA reports inboard towboats were up 10% year-over-year for the month of January in a control group representing 93% of the market.
