Parema’s SEA-GREEN technology simplifies access on board

Stepping on board, moving from space to space and opening and closing any door on a yacht should always feel entirely natural and discreet. This objective was foremost to mind when Italian company Parema designed its new SEA-GREEN automatic telescopic sliding door system.  

 The aim is to make access easy for yacht owners, with technology handling the complex work. The electric drive, electronic control system and electromechanical lock work together as one system, resulting in a movement that’s as smooth, quiet and natural as possible. The prototype includes local controls, electronic memory of end positions, and a manual mode that kicks in when the power supply is disconnected. 

 Customised for every yacht  

Conscious that a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work for today’s market, Parema develops the frame geometry, sliding travel, finishes and system configuration with individual boatbuilders according to the available space, aesthetic design and intended use for each product. Electrical interfaces and safety devices are defined specifically for the final application. This keeps the complexity of the design behind the scenes and the experience on board intuitive.  

 “We want yacht owners to open a door without having to think about how it works – and boatbuilders to install it without complications,” says Manuela Padovani, Parema’s commercial and marketing director. “That’s why we develop every configuration together with the boatbuilder – because ease of use and installation begin with careful design.” 

 Another aspect of the project is the option for Bluetooth access, which has been developed in collaboration with Southco through a compatible controller and the Keypanion app. Authorised users can manage devices and share digital credentials remotely, provided they’re within Bluetooth range. An offline configuration further enables the system to be used without a mobile network or internet connection.  

Half a century of collaboration and craftmanship  

In developing the SEA-GREEN concept, family-owned Parema draws on nearly 50 years of experience in designing and manufacturing custom doors, windscreens and other components for yachts. Established in 1978 by Renato Padovani, now its president, Parema has been managed for the past 20 years by his daughters Paola, CEO, and Manuela.  

 It’s a company that has always prioritised craftsmanship and close collaboration, appreciating that only by forging and nurturing valued partnerships with other industry experts can it create real solutions. As such, Parema has always made it a priority to work with boatbuilders and designers, addressing technical constraints together, focusing on attention to detail, and making unique components that are reliable and easy to use.

 This first range of automatic telescopic sliding doors marks the beginning of a new phase in the company’s evolution as it continues to innovate for the future. “Our dedicated research and development team are continuing to work on further innovations, while always honouring our founding values,” says Padovani.
