E, a customised Sunreef 60 cat designed for charter, is proof a boat can look good as well as helping to save the planet

If you needed reassurance that upping your eco credentials can not only help save the planet, but look good too, then find time to step aboard E, a new environmentally conscious charter yacht designed in partnership with Sunreef Yachts.

The world’s first Sunreef 60 with a high-powered electric propulsion system, this pioneering 60ft eco-catamaran allows its guests to enjoy a luxurious sailing experience safe in the knowledge they are making as minimal impact on the oceans as possible. The design incorporates fully recyclable performance sails, a smart energy management solution for a more sustainable cruising experience, non-toxic bottom paints, titanium and carbon elements for reduced weight, as well as a wastewater management system.

E’s design also incorporates reclaimed, recycled or remnant materials – all implemented without compromising on style – Missoni fabrics are used throughout, with each guest cabin subtly individualised with colour accents, while the use of black, metallic grey and titanium creates a calm palette with an emphasis on luxury  – which is very much the point, according to the project’s co-creator Tomasz Piekarec: “Much more than an electric yacht, we want E to be a force for change, inspiring our guests and the wider yachting community to be more responsible, with the legacy of preserving our precious oceans for generations to come.”

E’s energy mix relies on hydrogeneration and solar power. Two high-performance 55 kW electric engines generate electricity from wind whilst sailing, charging the 140kWh propulsion battery bank, which provides for up to 6 hours of cruising on engines. E is the first sailing catamaran to be fitted with curved solar panels on the carbon bimini for increased efficiency and high aesthetics, which feed electricity into the 16kWh house battery bank providing clean energy supply to sustain all the yacht’s needs. For safety and regulatory reasons there is a backup 90 kW diesel generator.
