The HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction will celebrate its Golden Jubilee this year when it returns to the RAI Amsterdam convention centre from November 12-13.

Organised in cooperation with RAI Amsterdam, this scientific get-together will be held in parallel with the METSTRADE Show, which runs from November 13-15 in the same location.

“We have been organising this symposium since 1968,” explains Hans Hopman, professor in marine engineering at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). “A unique collaboration between HISWA, TU Delft and RAI Amsterdam, it is the ideal forum in which to share the latest scientific findings with the international market and research institutes.”

The symposium is one of the ways in which the Netherlands maintains its status as a major centre for knowledge development in the global yachtbuilding sector. “This is why we are very happy to welcome students to the event,” Hopman adds. “They are the workforce of the future and will play a major role in helping us to retain and hopefully expand our international position.”

This year’s symposium, the theme of which is ‘Back to the Future’, will be opened by naval architect Gerard Dijkstra and former associate professor at TU Delft Dr Lex Keuning. They will reflect on past innovations while also considering new ones in the fields of yacht design and construction.
